A gorgeous okimono from the later Shōwa period. Intricately carved of beautiful boxwood, okimono are decorative objects often placed in sparsely decorated areas such as tea rooms as an object of contemplation. This piece consists of multiple fruits and nuts and features a carved cicada representing the cycle of rebirth, a common theme in Japanese culture and a tenet in Buddhism.
