A gorgeous trio of wooden mäsqäl from the Coptic priests of Ethiopia. Beautiful carving and exceptional patina. Ethiopia is home to the oldest form of Christianity in the world. These stunning pieces date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are offered on custom stands.
With wonderful provenance, these items come from the collection of an eclectic and well-travelled artist couple in Geneva, Switzerland who counted contemporaries Arman, Man Ray, and Daniel Spoerri as close friends. The oldest and largest of the three crosses was purchased at the Galerie Outre Mer in Geneva in 2005, and was formerly in the collection of Nicolas Rossier.
Tallest Mounted: 15"H
