A superb pair of monumental ancestor portraits from the Qing dynasty, circa 1830. Depicting a high-ranking court official and his wife, the couple are wearing vibrant blue robes with embroidered details and embroidered rank badges prominently displayed. The male wears a Qingdai guanmao, or officials hat captured in fine detail, while the wife is adorned with a variety of exquisite hairpins and ornaments. The couple are restrained and dignified, their facial expressions captured in a masterful lifelike manner. The portraits are displayed behind cream-colored silk mats with gold filets and elegant Art Deco frames.
